Description

A creamy, smooth, and easy-to-make vanilla buttercream frosting that’s perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and more.


Ingredients

  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons whole milk
  • Pinch of kosher salt


Instructions

  1. Beat the softened butter on medium speed for 1-2 minutes until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low until combined.
  3. Add vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of milk. Mix on medium speed until smooth. Add more milk if needed.
  4. Add a pinch of kosher salt and mix again.
  5. Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, or store for later use.

Notes

  • Add food coloring to customize for different occasions.
  • For a richer flavor, try adding a little almond extract along with the vanilla.
