Description

These Texas Trash Brownies are rich, fudgy, and loaded with crunchy mix-ins like chocolate chips, pretzels, nuts, and marshmallows. Easy to make and perfect for parties, potlucks, and quick desserts!

Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • 1 box brownie mix (1820 oz)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 1/4 cup water

Texas Trash Toppings

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup crushed pretzels
  • 1/3 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/3 cup M&M’s or chocolate candies

(You may mix and match toppings as desired.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 or 9×9 baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Prepare the Brownie Batter
In a large bowl, mix together the brownie mix, eggs, oil, and water. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  3. Pour Batter into the Pan
Transfer the brownie batter to the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  4. Add the Trash Toppings
Sprinkle all your chosen toppings — chocolate chips, pretzels, coconut, nuts, marshmallows, and candies — evenly over the batter. Gently press them into the surface so they adhere during baking.
  5. Bake
Bake for 25–28 minutes, or until the center is just set and a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
  6. Cool and Slice
Let the brownies cool completely before cutting into squares. This helps the layers firm up for clean slices.

Notes

  • Press toppings lightly into the batter so they bake in and don’t fall off.
  • Use parchment paper for easy removal.
  • For extra fudgy brownies, underbake by 2 minutes.
  • Add caramel drizzle before baking for richer flavor.
  • Leftover Halloween or holiday candies work great as mix-ins!
  • Want thicker brownies? Bake in an 8×8 pan instead of 9×9.
