Description

Soft and chewy red velvet cookies with subtle cocoa flavor and a signature crinkled sugar coating.


Ingredients

Cookies

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon professional red food coloring
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Coating

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and creamy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and food coloring.
  4. Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Add dry ingredients to wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  6. Scoop dough into tablespoon-sized balls.
  7. Roll each ball in granulated sugar, then powdered sugar.
  8. Place on baking sheets 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are set and tops are crinkled.
  10. Cool briefly on pan, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Do not overbake; centers should stay soft.
  • Double sugar coating ensures defined crinkles.
  • Gel food coloring gives the most vibrant color.
