Ingredients
Cookies
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon professional red food coloring
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Coating
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and creamy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and food coloring.
- Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Add dry ingredients to wet mixture and mix until just combined.
- Scoop dough into tablespoon-sized balls.
- Roll each ball in granulated sugar, then powdered sugar.
- Place on baking sheets 2 inches apart.
- Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are set and tops are crinkled.
- Cool briefly on pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
Notes
- Do not overbake; centers should stay soft.
- Double sugar coating ensures defined crinkles.
- Gel food coloring gives the most vibrant color.
