Description

A quick and flavorful Korean-inspired bowl made with sweet and savory ground beef served over warm rice, finished with sesame seeds and green onions.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450 g) lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook rice according to package instructions and keep warm.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, crushed red pepper flakes, and black pepper.
  5. Pour the sauce over the beef and stir well.
  6. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Serve beef over warm rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Use jasmine rice for extra aroma and flavor.
  • Add steamed broccoli or sautéed vegetables for a more balanced bowl.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to control heat level.
  • Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for beef.
