Description
A quick and flavorful Korean-inspired bowl made with sweet and savory ground beef served over warm rice, finished with sesame seeds and green onions.
Ingredients
- 1 pound (450 g) lean ground beef (90% lean)
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
- ¼ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
- Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Cook rice according to package instructions and keep warm.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, crushed red pepper flakes, and black pepper.
- Pour the sauce over the beef and stir well.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Serve beef over warm rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
- Use jasmine rice for extra aroma and flavor.
- Add steamed broccoli or sautéed vegetables for a more balanced bowl.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to control heat level.
- Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for beef.
