Description

Honey Sesame Chicken is a quick, flavorful dish made with tender chicken simmered in a sweet and savory honey-soy sauce, finished with garlic and sesame seeds for a comforting homemade dinner.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (olive oil or canola oil also works)
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup honey
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season chicken pieces evenly with salt and black pepper.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and fully cooked. Remove chicken and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add diced onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Stir in honey, soy sauce, ketchup, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3–4 minutes.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch and water until smooth. Slowly pour into the sauce, stirring continuously until thickened.
  6. Return chicken to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to better control salt levels.
  • Cut chicken evenly to ensure uniform cooking.
  • Add a splash of water if the sauce becomes too thick while simmering.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
