Description
Honey Sesame Chicken is a quick, flavorful dish made with tender chicken simmered in a sweet and savory honey-soy sauce, finished with garlic and sesame seeds for a comforting homemade dinner.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (olive oil or canola oil also works)
- ½ cup diced onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup honey
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup ketchup
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- 6 tablespoons water
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Season chicken pieces evenly with salt and black pepper.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and fully cooked. Remove chicken and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add diced onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Stir in honey, soy sauce, ketchup, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3–4 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch and water until smooth. Slowly pour into the sauce, stirring continuously until thickened.
- Return chicken to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to better control salt levels.
- Cut chicken evenly to ensure uniform cooking.
- Add a splash of water if the sauce becomes too thick while simmering.
