Description

Bright, tangy, and perfectly sweet—this easy homemade cranberry sauce recipe comes together in just 15 minutes! A must-have holiday side dish that’s bursting with fresh flavor and holiday cheer.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz (1 bag) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup orange juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • Optional: 1 cinnamon stick, pinch of nutmeg, or splash of bourbon

Instructions

  1. Rinse and prep cranberries: Wash cranberries and discard any soft or discolored ones.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a medium saucepan, mix cranberries, sugar, orange juice, water, and orange zest.
  3. Cook: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir occasionally.
  4. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and cook for about 10 minutes, until most cranberries pop and the sauce thickens.
  5. Optional flavors: Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg, or bourbon for extra depth.
  6. Cool and store: Remove from heat and allow to cool. The sauce will thicken more as it cools. Transfer to a container and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Make ahead: Cranberry sauce tastes even better after a day or two as the flavors meld together.
  • Adjust sweetness: Add more or less sugar to suit your taste preference.
  • Add texture: Mix in chopped apples or pecans for a twist.
  • Serving idea: Serve warm or chilled alongside turkey, pork, or as a topping for desserts and breakfast dishes.
