A quick and flavorful take on General Tso’s Chicken made with ground chicken, crunchy water chestnuts, and a sweet-savory sauce. Ready in under 30 minutes and perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prep.
Ingredients
For the Chicken
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 8 oz canned water chestnuts, diced
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
For the General Tso’s Sauce
- 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together rice vinegar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, water, sugar, and cornstarch. Set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes; cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground chicken and cook, breaking it apart, until fully browned and cooked through.
- Stir in diced water chestnuts and cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Pour in the prepared sauce and stir continuously until thickened and glossy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve warm over rice or noodles.
Notes
- Reduce red pepper flakes for a milder version.
- Use ground turkey as an easy substitute.
- Serve with steamed broccoli or snap peas for added vegetables.
- Gluten-free soy sauce can be used if needed.
