Description

A quick and flavorful take on General Tso’s Chicken made with ground chicken, crunchy water chestnuts, and a sweet-savory sauce. Ready in under 30 minutes and perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

For the Chicken

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 8 oz canned water chestnuts, diced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

For the General Tso’s Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together rice vinegar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, water, sugar, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes; cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground chicken and cook, breaking it apart, until fully browned and cooked through.
  4. Stir in diced water chestnuts and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir continuously until thickened and glossy, about 2–3 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and serve warm over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Reduce red pepper flakes for a milder version.
  • Use ground turkey as an easy substitute.
  • Serve with steamed broccoli or snap peas for added vegetables.
  • Gluten-free soy sauce can be used if needed.
