Description

These Easy Candied Pecans are a quick and simple treat that combines granulated sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla to create the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. Whether you make them in the oven or the Crock-Pot, they’re the perfect snack or topping for salads, desserts, or your favorite morning oats.

Ingredients

For the Oven Method:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 16 ounces unsalted pecan halves (about 4 cups)
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon water

For the Crock-Pot Method:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 6 cups pecan halves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven Method: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Egg White Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg white with water until frothy. Add vanilla extract and combine well.
  3. Coat Pecans: Toss pecans in the egg white mixture and then in the sugar-cinnamon mixture, coating evenly.
  4. Bake: Spread pecans in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 30-35 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Cool and Store: Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely. Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

For the Crock-Pot Method:

  1. Prepare the Pecan Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the sugars, cinnamon, cloves, egg whites, and vanilla extract. Add pecans and toss until coated.
  2. Cook in Crock-Pot: Transfer pecans to the Crock-Pot and set to low. Cook for 2-3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes.
  3. Cool and Store: Spread cooled pecans onto a baking sheet to firm up and store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the sugar mixture.
  • You can substitute ground almonds for part of the pecans for added texture.
  • Keep an eye on the pecans while baking to prevent burning.
