Description
Golden, crunchy air fryer tofu coated in seasoned breadcrumbs for a simple plant-based protein with great texture.
Ingredients
- 12 oz extra-firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
- ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- ⅔ cup panko breadcrumbs (more if needed)
- Oil spray (olive oil or grapeseed oil)
- Coarsely ground black pepper, to taste
- Salt, optional
Instructions
- Press tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Toss tofu with tamari, garlic powder, and black pepper until coated.
- Sprinkle cornstarch over tofu and toss gently to coat evenly.
- Add panko breadcrumbs and toss until fully coated.
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and lightly spray basket with oil.
- Arrange tofu in a single layer, spray lightly with oil, and air fry for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden and crisp.
- Season lightly with salt if desired and serve immediately.
Notes
- Press tofu thoroughly for best crispiness.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket.
- Spray lightly with oil to help browning.
- Reheat leftovers in the air fryer to restore crunch.
