Description

Golden, crunchy air fryer tofu coated in seasoned breadcrumbs for a simple plant-based protein with great texture.


Ingredients

  • 12 oz extra-firm tofu, drained and pressed
  • 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ⅔ cup panko breadcrumbs (more if needed)
  • Oil spray (olive oil or grapeseed oil)
  • Coarsely ground black pepper, to taste
  • Salt, optional


Instructions

  1. Press tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Toss tofu with tamari, garlic powder, and black pepper until coated.
  3. Sprinkle cornstarch over tofu and toss gently to coat evenly.
  4. Add panko breadcrumbs and toss until fully coated.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and lightly spray basket with oil.
  6. Arrange tofu in a single layer, spray lightly with oil, and air fry for 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden and crisp.
  7. Season lightly with salt if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Press tofu thoroughly for best crispiness.
  • Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket.
  • Spray lightly with oil to help browning.
  • Reheat leftovers in the air fryer to restore crunch.
