Tennessee Onions are a savory Southern side dish featuring sweet onions baked with butter, herbs, and three kinds of cheese until golden, bubbly, and irresistible.

Ingredients

  • 3 large sweet onions (such as Vidalia), sliced into ½-inch rings
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Slice onions into ½-inch rings and layer them evenly in the dish.
  3. Mix melted butter, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Drizzle over onions.
  4. Sprinkle cheddar, Monterey Jack, and Parmesan evenly over the top.
  5. Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes until golden and bubbly.
