Description

Juicy oven-baked beef patties filled and topped with melted cheese, seasoned simply and baked until tender and flavorful. A comforting main dish that pairs well with many sides.

Ingredients

Patty Mixture

  • 680 g beef mince (20% fat)
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 60 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp Italian herb blend
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

For Finishing

  • 170 g cheese (mozzarella or cheddar), cubed
  • 120 g grated cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Fresh parsley or chives, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all patty mixture ingredients until just mixed.
  3. Divide mixture into 6–8 portions. Flatten each portion and place cheese cubes in the center.
  4. Seal and shape into thick patties. Arrange on the baking tray.
  5. Brush patties lightly with olive oil.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes, then remove from oven and sprinkle grated cheese on top.
  7. Return to oven and bake another 10–15 minutes, until cooked through and cheese is melted.
  8. Rest briefly before serving. Garnish if desired.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the beef to keep patties tender
  • Seal cheese well inside to prevent leaking
  • Let patties rest before serving to retain juices
