Description

Blackberry Dumplings are a warm and comforting dessert featuring fluffy dumplings smothered in a sweet and tangy blackberry sauce. Made with fresh or frozen blackberries, this dessert is perfect for any season and simple to prepare. It’s a delicious way to enjoy the natural sweetness of berries!

Ingredients

For the Blackberry Sauce:

  • 1 quart fresh or frozen blackberries, rinsed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp lemon extract

For the Dumplings:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2/3 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Combine blackberries, water, sugar, salt, and lemon extract in a saucepan. Simmer for 10-12 minutes until thickened, then remove from heat.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and nutmeg). Gradually add milk and stir until combined into dough.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough into the simmering sauce. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, allowing the dumplings to puff up.
  4. Serve warm with sauce poured over the dumplings. Garnish with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.

Notes

  • For a cinnamon twist, add a pinch of cinnamon to the dumpling dough.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days and reheated on the stove.
