Description
A comforting Amish-style baked oatmeal made with apples, cinnamon, and simple pantry staples, perfect for make-ahead breakfasts or relaxed weekend mornings.
Ingredients
- 3 cups (300 g) old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (106 g) lightly packed brown sugar
- 2½ cups milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 tablespoons butter or coconut oil, melted
- 2–3 large apples (Honeycrisp or Gala), peeled, cored, and diced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine oats, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and brown sugar.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until evenly combined.
- Fold in diced apples.
- Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
- Bake for 35–45 minutes, until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
- Let cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For extra richness, use whole milk or add a splash of cream.
- Add chopped nuts or raisins for extra texture.
- Serve warm with milk, yogurt, or maple syrup.
- Allow resting time after baking for easier slicing.
