Description

Thinly sliced ripe bananas tossed in melted coconut oil, cinnamon sugar, and a pinch of salt, then air fried until crispy, caramelized, and deeply fragrant. A naturally vegan, gluten-free, five-ingredient snack ready in 15 minutes that is wholesome, satisfying, and completely addictive.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe but firm bananas
  • 1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 minutes.
  2. Peel the bananas and slice into rounds approximately ⅛ inch thick — as uniform as possible for even cooking. A mandoline produces the most consistent results but a sharp knife works well with care.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon together until evenly combined.
  4. Place the banana slices in a large bowl. Drizzle the melted coconut oil over them and toss gently until every slice is lightly and evenly coated.
  5. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar and pinch of salt over the coated banana slices and toss gently once more until the seasoning is evenly distributed.
  6. Arrange the banana slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket — do not overlap. Work in batches if necessary.
  7. Air fry for 8–10 minutes, flipping each slice carefully at the halfway point, until the chips are golden, slightly caramelized at the edges, and beginning to firm up.
  8. Remove from the air fryer and allow to cool on a wire rack for 3–5 minutes — they crisp up further as they cool. Serve immediately or store once fully cooled.

Notes

  • Use bananas that are ripe but still firm — overly ripe bananas are too soft and sweet and will not crisp properly in the air fryer, resulting in chewy rather than crispy chips.
  • Slice as uniformly as possible — thicker slices stay chewy while thinner slices crisp better. Aim for ⅛ inch consistently throughout.
  • Do not skip the cooling time — the chips continue to firm and crisp significantly during the 3–5 minutes after coming out of the air fryer and will not feel properly crispy if eaten immediately.
