This elegant dark chocolate peppermint mousse is made with just water, chocolate, and peppermint extract. It’s airy, silky, and naturally dairy-free — a simple yet impressive dessert for holidays or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 1/8 cups water
- 10 oz high-quality dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 1/3 teaspoon peppermint extract
Instructions
- Heat water in a small saucepan until gently simmering (small bubbles forming along the edges). Remove from heat.
- Add chopped dark chocolate and let sit for 1 minute to soften.
- Whisk until completely smooth and glossy with no visible lumps.
- Stir in peppermint extract.
- Place bowl over an ice bath and beat with a hand mixer until the mixture thickens, lightens in color, and forms soft peaks (about 3–5 minutes).
- Immediately spoon into serving dishes and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
Notes
- Use chocolate with 60–70% cocoa for best structure.
- Finely chop chocolate to ensure smooth melting.
- Stop whipping as soon as soft peaks form to prevent graininess.
- If mousse becomes too firm, let it rest at room temperature briefly before serving.
